RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT DETERMINED TO REDUCE DISEASE BURDEN IN THE STATE

The Rivers State Government has reiterated its determination to reduce the disease burden of the Rivers People.




The State Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo reiterated this in a goodwill message from the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, 6th April, 2021 to commemorate the year 2021 World Health Day.

According to Dr. Banigo under the watch of Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike the State has made a lot of progress in healthcare delivery, which includes the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences in the Rivers State University and the establishment of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital for the training of Medical Manpower.

The Deputy Governor said in line with the theme of the 2021 World Health Day, which is “Together for a fairer, healthier world”. The Rivers State Government had continued to pursue programmers and policies that are non-discriminatory, aimed at improving health care delivery, while noting that the abolition of user fees for People Living with HIV is a deliberate policy to give them succor and unfettered access to medicare.

Dr. Banigo who said citizens have the responsibility to lead healthy life style to prevent ill health, disclosed that the State Government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic was exemplary, while vaccination against the virus is on-going smoothly.

The Deputy Governor said the State Government is planning a health insurance programme for the citizenry, stressing that the rehabilitation of General Hospitals across the State, the construction of Zonal Hospitals as well as the construction of the Mother and Child Hospital would increase access to health care. 

It would be recalled that the 7th of April each year has been set aside to celebrate World Health Day.
