2020, as it gradually comes to an end will not be easily forgotten by so many of us. We all wish it would come to an end and wrapped up soon enough.
The year has not really been a great year for so many people. Though its been good and great for a selected few but most had it rough and challenging for them.
With it came so many challenges that left so many devastated. In fact I have heard and seen jokes where it was stated that the year 2020 should be reformatted.
If so many of us should look back at the year, we would see so many things that were not achieved, things we did wrong, dreams not realized, mistakes made, ideas not executed, failed plans and full potentials not reached.
There were business failures, career failures, academic failures and delays, failed relationships, people lost their jobs, lost loved ones, others felt they failed their families and loved ones.
Some failures experienced were as a result of the mistakes made or wrong decisions made. Others were as a result of the challenges encountered in 2020.
The world at large experienced a pandemic that brought most economies of the world to a stand still or to its lowest point resulting to so many misfortunes and sufferings.
But it doesn't all end in 2020. Don't get stuck relieving the failures or difficulties experienced in 2020. You've gotta move on. Your best days are ahead of you.
People may have put labels on you as a failure in one area of life or the other. You failed to realize your dreams, you failed in business, you had a failed relationship.
You failed in exhibiting your talents and potentials. The expectations you had for 2020 and peoples's expectations of you in all ramification failed so what?
People are free to place labels on you and call you whatever they like but you decide what you respond or react to.
No doubt, 2020 has been one hell of a year but you are alive because God has something great in the future for you.
Everyone has experienced one form of failure or the other at one point in life. We all encounter difficulties and challenges in life.
Most successful people you see today and admire had series of failures and challenges in business, career, relationships and otherwise before they became what they are today.
People like Oprah Winfrey, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, Walt Disney, Michael Jordan, Charles Darwin, Curtis Jackson aka 50 cents, Harrison Ford, Keanu Reeves, Mark Zuckerberg, Ben Carson and a host of others had series of failures and challenges before they became successful people.
If these people had given up, reacted badly or negatively to failures and difficulties, they wouldn't have been where they are today impacting lives with their dreams and potentials.
We look at these people today and admire them. We want to be as successful as they are because we only see their success forgetting they experienced failures and difficulties at some point in life.
As early as February this year (2020), I experienced a big failure that could have ended my speaking and writing career but thank God I did not give up.
Learnt a vital lesson from it, became better and still standing strong in it. Haven't gotten to where I really want to get to but still moving and aiming high.
You can read about my experience here : Be Fearless and Passionate about the pursuit of your dreams Part 2
Failures give us humbling experiences both for the observed and the observer while learning from it gives us a humbling process but you can only achieve this when you look at failure from a positive angle.
Failures if taken well and positively can set the stage for a grand success at the end. From a young age, people have been taught to celebrate only success and associate failure with shame which comes with stigma and negative labeling.
What we fail to realize is that failures come with vital lessons that sharpen, refine and help brighten our paths to greatness and success in life.
Failure when experienced is never pleasant or something to be delighted about at the moment when it occurs. It can be disheartening and discouraging.
At such times, it would seem difficult to learn from it or see the bright picture ahead but if you do not give up or give in, you would become courageous, resilient and fiercely determined to carry and pursue your dreams living your full potential.
It is how you react and respond to failures that determines how far you go in the next phase of your life. You either get stuck in failing or move on to a brighter future.
2021 gives you an opportunity to get better in your craft, pursue your dreams vigorously or live another dream. What's in your future is much better than what is lost or failed to achieve.
WAYS TO GET PASSED THE DIFFICULTIES OF 2020
1. BE GRATEFUL TO GOD : First of all, be grateful to God that you weren't consumed by the challenges of 2020. You may have lost so many things but God is the reason why you haven't lost all.
The fact that you are alive to see 2021 indicates God has something great and better for you in the future. There is hope for everyone alive.
Only the living can cause a change. The dead irrespective of his/her social standing can't do a thing any more. No wonder the Bible speaks in Ecclesiastics 9:4(b) that a "living dog is better than a dead lion."
2. GET PASSED THE PAST : Don't get stuck in the failures of 2020 but move forward towards the success of your future because that's where you belong and not in the failures of the past.
Just because you experienced failures does not mean you are a failure or that you will never succeed in life. It doesn't mean you won't win or see better days ahead.
The truth is, you can't stop life from happening to you but you can choose how you respond to it. Quit relieving what did not work out and know that God has sufficient grace for every season of your life.
He will never let you go through what you can not handle. For every difficulty or challenge faced, He has enough grace to see you through it.
In order to get passed the difficulties of 2020, forgive yourself of every mistake made, failure to live your full potential, dreams and visions not lived, failed businesses and every wrong decision made or taken.
Take a bit of time to reflect on how the year went. Analyze your behaviors, the circumstance you found yourself in or forced to be in. What was your mindset in those circumstances?
What goals set were achieved and which were not. What were your wins, losses, challenges and opportunities missed.
Reflect on all these, put them in a journal and see how you can do much better in 2021. After you have done all these, let go of the past. Whatever happened in 2021 is gone and past. It's time to move on.
Relieving the past gets you trapped and prevents you from moving forward so get over 2020 and look towards a brighter future in 2021
Recreate your goals in 2021 or create new goals. Dreams you had in 2020 can still be pursued and achieved in 2021 and 2021 also gives you the opportunity to pursue and live a new dream.
To be continued next week
Quote for the day - "So what? You failed your finals. You gained some weight. So what? You are single again. You lost your job. So what? What now? You live. You try again. That's what."
