KEEPING YOUR RELATIONSHIP HEALTHY DURING THE QUARANTINE

Due to the corona virus, so many couples have been forced to spend more time with each other which wasn't the case before the emergence of the virus leading to a lock down situation all over the world.

Before the lock down, everyone was up and about their duties going about their activities/jobs with couples parting ways every morning to their different vocations . 

There are couples who also hardly had time for each other due to their busy schedule or the nature of their jobs while some just found it difficult being home.

With the emergence of COVID-19, its now a different ball game where couples are forced to spend time with each other due to the lock down issued by almost every government all over the world.

Now, while this is suppose to be a good thing for couples to strengthen their bond, improve their relationship as well as their level of communication, it can also cause some strains in the relationship.

Foe some couples, it is a dream come true while for others it could be a nightmare being locked up together, feeling choked and trapped.

While a partner (especially the women) might see this as an opportunity to have quality time with their significant other, the reverse might be the case for the other person who might feel overwhelmed and caged to a place. 

Be that as it may, the lock down situation all over the world will put so many relationships to the test. It would reveal the true stance of each other depending on the situation.

As it stands, some persons have already lost their jobs which will also put a strain in their relationships as well as test the love of their partners.

Below are some tips to help you have a healthy relationship during the quarantine period;

1. GIVE EACH OTHER SPACE : Though in same room but you can learn to give each other some space in between. Let the other breathe in some fresh air away from you once in a while, while you do same.

Have some time alone for yourself and let your partner do same. Having sometime lets you reevaluate things, have a reflection of things as well as plan ahead. 

It also helps to prevent too much friction between you two as you both recharge yourselves being alone for a while. 

2. LEARN TO HAVE FUN TOGETHER : In order to get rid of or reduce the tension created by the lock down, learn to create and have fun together.

This can be done by doing some in door workouts together, watching a movie together, playing games and possibly doing some chores together. 

This would go a long way to help improve and keep the relationship in a healthy state all through the lock down without strains.

3. CREATE STRUCTURES FOR YOURSELVES : In a lock down situation, it could be difficult to have a regular schedule of things like we do before the emergence of the corona virus. 

Don't just sleep, wake up and eat all day. Create a schedule for yourself. Have a routine that could probably keep you away from your partner for sometime. Don't pause your life because you are in a lock down situation.

Being locked down is not being knocked out. Creating a schedule for yourself could include, finding time to read books, writing some articles, poem, keeping a journal of your experience during this period or learning to cook something new.

Stick to your usual routine of waking up early, excising etc. In place of going to work after your usual morning routine, create a schedule of doing something else.

4. HELP RELIEVE EACH OTHER'S ANXIETY : In moments like this where one feels trapped, having fears of the unknown especially as it relates to one's job, fear, anxiety and even depression might spike up. 

Learn to understand your partner in such moments and talk about such fears. Holding it in could cause more arm than necessary not just to the relationship but on the individual as well especially those who may have lost their jobs or loved ones

5. SHOW EMPATHY : If your partner is feeling stressed out due to the situation or affected in one way or the other, learn to show empathy bu putting yourself in his or her shoes.

Due to the pandemic, some have lost their jobs and loved ones. It's not the time to start adding to the stress but reaching out lovingly and understandably.

6. IMPROVE YOUR COMMUNICATION LEVEL : This is an opportunity to get to know each other better and one of the ways to do that is communicating better. 

Learn to argue maturely without name calling, shaming and making the other feel insignificant or less.

Learn to express your feelings or displeasure better in order to avoid heated arguments that could possibly lead to physical violence.

Being locked down together in a situation like this, is a great opportunity to work on your relationship and make it strive better than it was. Show more love and understanding to your partner this period cos everyone is presently stressed.
