Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has commended the State Chief Executive, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for being a Caring and Compassionate Leader.
Dr. Banigo stated this at the Degema Consulate, Headquarters of the Degema Local Government Council on Saturday 2nd May 2020, during the distribution of palliatives by the Rivers State Covid 19 Palliative Committee.
According to Dr. Banigo, Governor Wike demonstrated leadership by being the first Governor in the Country to close his boarders even before the Federal Government deemed it fit to do so, noting that despite the fact that Rivers State is the Hub of the Hydro Carbon Industry the prevalence rate of the disease is minimal compared to other States of the Federation because of the Governor’s concerted efforts to stem the spread of Covid 19 in the State.
“Imagine we are an Oil and Gas State and we have not recorded such losses like others because of the Governor’s foresightedness and Pro-activeness”. The Deputy Governor quipped.
The Deputy Governor urged members of the Palliative Committee in the various communities to do the needful and ensure that the palliatives get to the people who need it.
“We do not want to hear anything untoward, we want to hear that the items got to the people who really need them, the less privileged, the elderly and the widows please reach out to these people”. Dr. Banigo further stressed.
Earlier the Chairman of the Rivers State Covid 19 Palliative Committee, Ambassador Desmond Akawor had informed the People of the Local Government Area that Governor Wike sent the palliatives to cushion the effect of Covid 19 in the area, noting that the items has nothing to do with politics.
Responding on behalf of the People the representative of Ward 17 Delga, comprising Old Bakana and Ke’ Communities, Pastor Peter I. Peter thanked the Rivers State Government for bringing succour to the People of the Area, stressing that the items would be equitably distributed to the less privileged ones.
