Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has urged members of the Medical And Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) to be more caring and committed in relating with their patients.
Dr. Banigo stated this while playing host to members of MDCAN at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, 10th December, 2019.
According to the Deputy Governor they must occupy their positions and show influence where God has placed them, noting that when one is diligent in his work he would stand before Kings and not mean men.
She said one major problem bedeviling the health sector in the country is the fact that clients do not have faith in the system because of the unfriendly attitude of some health workers, noting that no matter how sophisticated the medical equipment might be, without committed workers the patients would not have confidence in the system.
Dr. Banigo who reiterated the commitment of the State Chief Executive Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in the area of health said no human can function effectively without being in good health.
“The Governor have always said you cannot be a lawyer, a High Court Judge, Supreme Court Judge and a Security Officer without being healthy”. Dr. Banigo stressed.
Dr. Banigo disclosed that the Governor’s commitment to health is not only in infrastructural development but also on human capacity development which informed his decision to release funds for residency training’s as well as other allowances.
Earlier the Chairman of MDCAN, Rivers State Dr. Simon Uriah had informed the Deputy Governor that his organization is a body of senior medical and dental practitioners who have obtained registerable specialist qualification from the West African Colleague of Physicians or surgeons or the National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria and have been appointed as a consultant by a Federal or State Government Health Institution.
