OUR PLAN TO REVAMP THE HEALTH SECTOR IS ON COURSE: Banigo

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo says the vision to revamp the health sector in the state remains on course.

The Deputy Governor stated this while Declaring open the 3rd Annual Scientific Conference of the Association of Female Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria in Port Harcourt on Thursday 7th November, 2019.

Represented by her Senior Special Assistant Barr. Inegogo Fubara, Dr. Banigo said the construction of the mother and child hospital, renovation of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, construction of General Hospitals, construction of model Health Centres and the equipping of the Radiology Laboratory of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital are all deliberate efforts by the State Chief Executive, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to provide the people of the State with a quality and affordable healthcare system.   

The Deputy Governor who said that she is passionate about protecting the Girl Child, noted that it is on that premise that she founded the Protect the Girl Child Initiative in the Office of Deputy Governor to mentor young girls on the various challenges that they may be confronted with.

“It is no gainsaying that the Girl Child in our society today is a vulnerable gender and need as much support as she can get to thrive in the society”. Dr. Banigo stressed.

Dr. Banigo who commended the Association for the good work they are doing in promoting the health of young girls and women in the country, thanked them for choosing Rivers State to host the 3rd National Conference of the Association.

In his remarks the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, said as legislators in the state, they have passed several laws that deals with universal health coverage.

Earlier the National President of the Association of Female Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria Dr. Lawrena Chinyere Okoro, said one of the most striking imbalance of power between men and women is violence against women which according to her leaves a long term effect on the women’s physical and mental health.

Also speaking the State Chairperson of the Association of Female Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria, Rivers State Branch, Mrs. Theresa Awortu Jeremiah, said the Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting is an annual event that brings together all Professional Female Medical Laboratory Scientist in health sector, government parastatals, training institutions, industries and agencies with the sole aim of working out a practical and intellectual synergy for the purpose of improving health and safety practice in the State and nation at large.
