Hitting rock bottom is something none of us want to experience and most of us don't really know how to handle it when we feel like we've hit rock bottom. When people say they have hit rock bottom, it means they have gotten to the lowest point in their lives. A point where it seems like all hope is lost, no way out and like they can't move on in life again. Sometimes, it is due to the loss of a loved one, failed relationships, loss of a job, crumbled businesses, decline in health and so on. This is what in most cases causes depression, mental insanity leading to failed health, heart attack and then ultimately suicide. Sometimes it's our insecurities that tend to weigh us down. The fear of being criticised if we speak up when we know we have the answers in us or that what we ought to say could turn the life of someone around. Other times, it is the fear of living our dreams for fear of failure or criticism. What happens at this time is that you are probably overthinking everything and overthinking everything pulls out your power and core strength resulting into insecurity and creating the tendency for you to compare yourself to everything and everyone around you.
No doubt, it is never easy to pull through when you feel like you have hit rock bottom but like they say, "as long as there is life, there is hope." Life may or may not be that difficult but depends on how we see it, how we handle situations that come our way and if we see hope and not despair. When we lose a loved one, have a failed relation, crumbled business or loose a job, the questions that come out of our mouths is "where do i go from here? or how can I live without you? what do I do? how can I go on like this? and so on. The truth is we can move and go on in life, the problem at that time is we just don't know how we can move on but we can. Ever felt like you have hit rock bottom? I have in many ways but each time I fall, I rise back up stronger, better and wiser. You too can. No matter what you are going through in life and you feel like you have hit rock bottom, YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK
You may have hit rock bottom or feel like you are at the worst point in life but if you believe there is no way back up, then it gets harder to get back up. You may not be as deep as you think or fallen so low as you think but when you keep looking down and not look up, you will never see the light breaking through and forth for you. You won't be the first to go through this neither would you be the last and most likely, there are people who are going through same issues as you but those who have gone through this same issue survived it so can you if only you reach out to people and look deep within you to see that there is a reason to be grateful and thankful to God for. One way to know that you are stronger than you think is when you have gone through seemingly unbearable pains. Strength is not just about physical power but more than that. It is the will power, determination and the drive to push on irrespective of the challenges faced.
HOW TO LIVE THROUGH DIFFICULT TIMES
1. LIVE ONE DAY AT A TIME : Living one day at a time enables you tackle and face the challenge headlong. Life has a way of distracting us from the moments God has given us. We are often encompassed with one issue or the other trying to weigh us down or drain our strength but we must learn to live one day at a time. According to Mother Teresa "Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin." Living one day at a time through the pain and difficulties might not be easy but is required of us from God. Each day you live through, the pain lessens and each day you live through the pain shows you are strong enough to go through this. You don't just get stronger but you heal as the days go by and gradually, you overcome. Life is not just about tomorrow but also about today. "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own". (Matthew 6:34). Jesus here, tells us to take one day at a time trusting Him each day of our lives as He works all things together for our good.
2. PRAY ALWAYS : Pray always for divine strength to pull through the difficult times you are experiencing. It is not something you can do alone without the help of God through prayers. Search the scriptures concerning that which you are going through. Where else can we find our strength and pull through if not in God and from His word (the Bible)? "As for me, I will call upon God and the Lord shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice". (Psalm 55:16-17). The Bible also instructs us to "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God". (Philippians 4:6)
2. MAINTAIN A POSITIVE MENTALITY : Maintaining a positive attitude when you hit rock bottom is not an easy task but not impossible to do. We are most times discouraged and disappointed when things don't go the way we want and at this time, we might find it difficult to maintain a positive attitude and even run the risk of asking God why He lets such things happen to us but if at such times we look up to God and His word, we would find hope. Romans 8:28 says "And we know all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose." God also says "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord,"plans of good and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ( Jeremiah 29:11). God has perfect plans for us all irrespective of what we go through in life and most of these difficulties we encounter, lead us towards the paths of God's plans for our lives. Knowing that all things work together for our good and that God has perfect plans for our lives, give us hope and enables us to to maintain a positive mentality. Live in hope and be positive that you will beat this and overcome. Be hopeful that this too shall pass. Every turbulent moment in our lives did not come to stay, they come to pass. We pass through the desert and not remain in it but while you are going through the desert in your life, it is not the passing that matters but our attitude at the time. Instead of letting bitterness consume you, forgive all those who wronged you in one way or the other. Live in Joy instead of frustration knowing this too shall pass. See difficult times as an opportunity to learn, grow and improve your situation.
3. GRATITUDE : When in difficult moments, it's usually difficult to have a heart of gratitude but gratitude is one of the easiest ways to happiness when you feel like you have hit rock bottom. When you are grateful for the things you have and not what you don't have, you are happier. Each morning you wake up and grateful to God for a brand new day and the gift of life, you are happier and full of hope. Take time to look inward, you will see so many things to be grateful for. The fact the you are six feet above and not beneath is a reason to be grateful, the fact that you can breathe in and out, is enough reason to be grateful, the fact that you don't just have food but have appetite to eat is a reason to be grateful. Life deals us some blows yet gives us so many reasons to be thankful for. "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (Ephesians 5:20) "The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, and with my song I Shall thank Him." (Psalm 28:7)
3. EXERCISE : Find time to exercise if not often. Instead of sitting down one place or rolling into bed dwelling in you pains or difficulties, go for a work out. Workouts takes the stress and thinking off you. Exercise is known to improve physical, mental and emotional well being. When the mind is weak and down, it affects the whole body and when the mind is strong, so is the body. According to medical science, exercise and other physical activities produce endorphins (Chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers) and also improve the ability to sleep which in turn reduces stress. A work out of low to high intensity can make you feel energised and healthy. If you feel like your body is weak and you can't stand up and work out as a result of the difficulties or challenges you are experiencing, here is a scripture from the Bible to motivate you. "He gives power to the faint, abundant strength to the weak. Though young men faint and grow weary, and youths stagger and fall, they that hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on eagles' wings; they will run and not grow weary, walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:29-31) The Bible also says in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." So rise up and shake off the weariness. You are stronger than you think.
We can only realize how strong we are when bad times. No matter how many times we feel like giving up, we won't if we stand and face adversities headlong. Do not allow the weight of life's challenges bring you down to the point that you want to give up in life.
