Since I started motivational blogging, I haven't had the opportunity to speak to people face to face. I do more of writing and publishing through my blog and sometimes online discussions with a group of people but then few weeks back, I was opportune to speak to great minds. When I was first contacted to come give a talk, I was given a blank check 😊 to speak on any topic of my choice but the goal was to motivate and inspire the people. My head was blank on what to talk about and I started pondering on some words that I usually use as daily mantras, then the words of Franklin Roosevelt came to mind so I decided to talk on it and thought I should share it here with you guys as well. Mantras are positive words, slogans or phrases used to motivate oneself either daily or depending on the circumstance you find yourself in.
Surprisingly, just writing and publishing in my blog is quite different from speaking to people face to face. Seems easier than actually standing before great people to speak. You can't imagine the stage fright I had at first 😄 but then it all went well. I was glad I did it and this is just the beginning of more to come. Now unto what was discussed that day.
We all have dreams that we picture in our heads and hoping to bring to realization some day. We hope to see ourselves living those dreams but unfortunately, so many us only live these dreams in our heads having beautiful fantasies with no steps to the physical manifestation of our dreams. Yes, it is good to have wild and beautiful imaginations but it's another thing to actually have those dreams in reality. Hope is just a wishful thinking and quite different from having faith. While faith enables you to take actions hope only gives you wishful thinking.
Just like Franklin Roosevelt quoted, a major setback to actually having our dreams fulfilled is having doubts (which in itself contains fear, low self-esteem and lack of faith) preventing us from fulfilling that beautiful dream in our heads or wanting to become who we aspire to be. We begin to ask ourselves questions like "Am I fit enough to live this dream, Am I capable? Am I worthy? Can I do this? who am I to stand before great minds to teach and motivate like I did few weeks back? But one thing we fail to realize is that, the realization of every or any dream begins with;

- TAKING STEPS : No matter how little or insignificant that step might be, take it especially the first step that comes your way. For instance, as a motivational blogger, I dream seeing myself traveling around the world speaking to people. That hasn't happened yet but speaking to these people few weeks back is the first step I would be taking and its a step towards achieving that goal. Like the assistant pastor in my church will always say, " Your dream might be global but start local". My dream is global but I am starting local. This could even be the step that might make me mount that global stage I dream of mounting some day. There is always a first time and a step to take at every opportunity that presents itself. Never see any step as insignificant. Do not wait for that big opportunity you have in your head. Some steps that come unexpected and seem insignificant are actually the door opening steps for great opportunities. For each step taken, there will always be challenges encountered, obstacles appearing and less than perfect conditions we may find ourselves in but each step we take, will make us grow stronger, more confident, more skilled and more and more successful in life.
- HAVING FAITH : Faith is one major powerful force required to succeed in achieving our dreams. Taking steps towards achieving that dream shouldn't be based on a trial and error condition but actually taking a step of faith believing this single step taken will launch you into the realization of that dream physically. Replace the fear of not being capable with the faith kind of capability. Fear has crippled so many dreams and so many people have actually taken their dreams to the grave and that's why the grave is termed to be the wealthiest place on earth with so many resources (talents and skills) untapped. Our deepest fear is that we are not good enough, capable enough or talented enough to actually see that dream come to pass. We are all gifted and powerful enough to see our gifts shine and our dreams come to pass successfully. All we need do is to identify that dream, tap into it, develop and nurture it. While fear cripples us from achieving our dreams, faith enables us to take actions towards achieving our dreams. Before I spoke to the people, I was scared at first wondering what I was going to say and if it would come out fine but still I took a bold step of faith despite the beating heart and the fear in me making me wonder if I can do it and at the end of the day I did it. Fear is seen as " false evidence appearing real" while faith is the confidence in what we hope for and the assurance of the things we do not see Hebrews 11:1
- BEING SELF CONFIDENT : Be self-confident that you can live that dream you so much want to live. If any other person could, you can as well. You can either do something new that no one has ever done or you can even improve and do better on what some other person does or has done if you have a similar dream. Low self-esteem has killed so many dreams making people feel they are not good enough to become who they want to become in life. To succeed in life we seriously need self-confidence accompanied with influential and dynamic faith. These are two powerful tools (self-confidence and faith) that we seriously need to be successful in all we do especially in living our dreams and purpose in life. The insecurities of today can be damaging to the dreams of our tomorrow. When I got to the venue of the place I was to give a talk, insecurity started creeping up on me after seeing the mature faces and my pastors there. Never knew these caliber of people were attending same event I was to give a talk and my heart almost left me after I saw them but you never know what you can do until you try. If you find yourself in a situation as this, you just have to look for your confidence and your confidence can only come from God" Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord and whose confidence is in Him". Jeremiah 17:7
Self doubt is one dangerous thing to have play in our minds or allow to dwell in our heads. If we allow self-doubt to creep in, then we cripple our abilities to pursue our dreams and be successful in the achievement of our dreams. So, be firm and resolute in your belief. Be optimistic as you pursue your dreams, be self-confident and rest assured that you can do it with an unwavering faith and finally, make every stumbling block a stepping stone towards achieving your goals.
