The tomorrow syndrome has been a major set back as to why most of our dreams or set goals are underachieved or not achieved at all.The common saying " You are where you are today because of the decision you took yesterday" is a fact. Where we are today in most cases is as a result of the decisions we took days or years back. If you have achieved certain things in your life today, its because you decided to take a step and if you haven't achieved that set goal you had in mind years back, it is also possibly as a result of the decision you took days or years back (deciding to do nothing). " The lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth." Proverbs 10:4.
I have come to realize that, so many of us have lovely dreams and set goals that we want to achieve but the fear of the unknown has been our major setback ( I am or was also one of such people). What we do in most cases is to wait for a mighty or a great opportunity to present itself before we begin to do that which we have in mind and take for granted or being insensitive to the little opportunities that come our way on a daily basis.

What we do in most cases is to wait for a mighty or a great opportunity to present itself before we begin to do that which we have in mind and take for granted or being insensitive to the little opportunities that come our way on a daily basis.
The Tomorrow syndrome is taking what we can do today to tomorrow (procrastination). Most times we tend to do certain things or are intrigued in doing certain things but always postpone to the next day saying "I will do it tomorrow" which becomes our everyday anthem concerning that project or task at hand. That tomorrow becomes today and we still take what we ought to do today to tomorrow. There are times we are overwhelmed with the task ahead in accomplishing a set goal or the seemingly difficulty we see or see no headway at all which makes us wanting to postpone till tomorrow. We forget that the tomorrow we talked about yesterday is the today we are in already. Tomorrow never ends, it will always come and will always be today. The more we take to tomorrow what we are to do today, the more our dreams will never be achieved. Your future depends greatly on what you do in the present. There are opportunities and steps to be taken everyday.
You are responsible for the result or outcome of your life therefore, no one is going to create your dreams and no dream is going to come true until you dream it and work it. So you must have a dream and in order to get this dream achieved you must take control of three vital patterns in your life which are ;
- THINKING PATTERN : One major set back in having our dreams, tasks or goals achieved is our thought pattern. We hear more of the discouraging words in our heads than the encouraging words. The encouraging words come in tiny whispers while the discouraging words come in loud. Our minds are powerful tools and our thoughts determine who we become and who we are. Paraphrasing, Proverbs 23:7 says a man is what he thinks in his heart. You become what you have played in your mind often. You have the power to determine what stays in your head and what does not. Ever noticed that sometimes at night we dream what must have played in our heads all through the day? The negative thoughts sure will come but you determine if they remain there or not and that's the power of choice which God has given us. In Deuteronomy 30:19 God said He has given us the power of choice to choose life or to choose death but He advises we choose life. So what ever plays in your mind is what you allow. When it comes to your dreams, turn every negative thoughts to positive thoughts. Do not allow the fear of failure, rejection or the seemingly difficulty perceived thwart your dreams, goals or tasks set ahead wanting to make you postpone till tomorrow that never ends cause God has not given us the spirit of fear or timidity but of sound mind love and self discipline (2nd Timothy 1:7). Replace every toxic pattern of thinking with healthy thinking. Philippians 4:8 says " What ever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent and praiseworthy - think about such things." Be positive about your dreams and think only positive things towards your set goals.
- FEELING PATTERN : Our feelings or how we feel about a thing is not beyond our control. They can be brought under subjection depending on how we feel about a thing. The way you feel about a thing will determine how you go about it. How do you feel about that set goal, task or dream you have? Do you feel fear or hopeful about the outcome? Your feelings will determine whether you take a step now or you postpone. When a task is set before you, replace the negative vibes out around you with positive vibes. The Bible admonishes us to Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, lets make our requests known to God and the peace which surpasses all understanding will guide our hearts and minds through Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:6-7). Fear is one feeling that deprives us of achieving many things, so instead of fear build faith believing your dream will come through. When difficulties and challenges mount up on your face instilling fears in you making you to wanna postpone that which you ought to do today, say "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13. When you are tempted with the tomorrow syndrome, say to yourself "I can do it today."
- ACTION PATTERN : After all being said and done, irrespective of your thoughts and feelings, if no action is taken, your dream becomes useless and you will keep postponing and postponing till infinity. The Bible says "Faith without works is dead" James 2:14. There are times tasks get piled up before you either at work or at home and you just don't know where to start from. The best option would be to start from somewhere and before you know it the job is done. Now imagine not doing anything or not taking a step, it will keep mounting up and the end result will be taking into tomorrow what ought to have been done today. Start with that little baby steps and before you know it the task is done. Concerning that goal or dream, start with every little step that presents itself each day and celebrate each step as a win which in turn motivates you to do more and before you know it, the dream or set goal is achieved. "Whoever watches the wind will not plant; who ever looks at the cloud will not reap." Ecclesiastics 11:4
In order to get our dreams achieved, there are little steps to be taken and these little steps present themselves every day but we ignore them expecting a bigger step to take. We must start with the little opportunities that present themselves in little steps. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb-line in Zerubbabel's hand." Zechariah 4:10
