The Wife of the State Chief Executive, Hon. Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom Wike has called on Rivers Men to plan for the welfare of their families by writing their will before they pass on.
Justice Wike made this call last weekend during the Governor Wike’s Widows’ Outreach Programme organized by the Office of the Deputy Governor at the Port Harcourt Civic Centre.

According to her, there are about 285 Million Widows worldwide who are faced with a lot of challenges like the trauma of losing their status as married women, economic challenges, noting that they suffer and are violated.
She urged women to learn to love one another, be more tolerant, open, and supportive to widows, stressing that widows contribute a lot not only to their famines but the society at large.

The Wife of the Governor emphasized the importance of educating the Girl Child to achieve her full potentials in life, because today’s Girl Child is tomorrows wife and tomorrow’s widow, stressing education would help widows to cope with widowhood challenges.
In her welcome remarks the State Deputy Governor Dr.(Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo expressed gratitude to Governor Wike for setting aside a day to reach out to 500 Widows drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas of the State, noting that the State Government under Governor Wike’s watch is a caring Government,

Dr. Banigo who extolled the gender friendly disposition of the Governor, thanked him for the inclusion of Mrs Inime Aguma, Widow of the Late Hon. Attorney General of the State, Emmanuel Aguma into the State Executive Council and for choosing her as his running mate in his second term bid.
According to her a needs basement of the Widows would be carried out to ascertain those who would be empowered with skills and business starter packs to enable them economically self-reliant
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Ukiel Oyhagiri had said the Rivers Women are blessed to have a compassionate leader like Governor Wike, stating that Rivers State is the only State in the Federation that has celebrated widows twice in one year.
The keynote speech was delivered by Pastor Mrs Happiness Ihueze, while the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) as well as the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) delivered talk on the Legal Rights of Widows and the Invisible health challenges as it relates to widows respectively.
