The Rivers State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensure
that all ethnic nationalities in the State are given a sense of
belonging.
Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo stated
this during the Annual Adult Thanksgiving Service of St. Alban’s
Anglican Church Obuama, in the Degema Local Government Area.
She said some people were fanning the embers of strife in Degema
Local Government Area by insinuating that there is a Kalabari and a
non kalabari dichotomy in the LGA, noting that the State Chief
Executive Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in his wisdom appointed a Female
Care-Taker Committee Chairman from Bille, Mrs. Okorite Carrie Adiele,
who according to her has performed even better than her male
predecessors, thereby putting an end to the erroneous believe that
there is division in the Local Government Area.
“I want to thank the Chiefs and Elders of Bille Community who have
written severally to thank and appreciate His Excellency, Chief Barr.
Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, GSSRS the Governor of Rivers State, and
myself for the nomination and appointment of Hon. Okorite Carrie
Adiele” She stressed.
Dr. Banigo further said
“In the last dispensation of the Degema
Care-Taker Committee, we also appointed a Supervisory Councilor from
Usokun, a feat which had never been done in Degema. We want to assure
Usokun-Degema people that they are next in line for a State Government
appointment”.
She said in the last re-run election detractors said there will be
trouble in Degema, but the elections took place in a very peaceful
atmosphere, stressing that there is nothing volatile about Degema
Local Government Area.
Dr. Banigo who said she is mindful of the fact that leadership comes
from God, disclosed that it will be very unscriptural for her to be
involved in leadership tussle in the Local Government Area.
In his Sermon the Vicar in Charge Ven. S.L.G Nteile said it is the
love of God that keeps us alive because we are not more righteous than
the dead. We owe him a sacrifice of thanks giving, stressing that the
first and best thing we have to offer is our lives.
The Vicar who said this year’s Harvest is a harvest of divine
enlargement prayed for the Almighty God to enlarge the coast of the
congregation in all aspects of their lives.
