The Rivers State Government has vowed to ensure that every part of the
State is safe round the clock.
Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo made this vow at a
security meeting with the Chairmen of the Care Taker Committee of
Asari Toru, Akuku Toru, Degema, Emohua and the Commanding Officer 130
Battalion, Harry’s Town Lt. Col. A. M Ahamadu at the Government House
in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Banigo said the State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is extremely
interested in the security and safety of all the Local Government
Areas of the State especially the coastal cities where there has been
reports of sea piracy, kidnapping and boat hijacking.
“This meeting is important we have to rub minds to know what everybody
is doing to ensure that Rivers State is safe for residents and
investors” She said.
According to Dr. Banigo,
“the State Government has provided Gun Boats,
Armoured Personnel Carriers and the necessary logistics to fight
crime” and called on well meaning citizens to provide timely
information to the security agencies, stressing that crime prevention
is a collective responsibility for all citizens.
She noted that “we must do whatever it takes to ensure that the issues
of sea robberies, kidnapping, cultism and gangsterism, rape, armed
robberies, ritual killings and cyber crime is completely wiped out of
Rivers State”.
Speaking on behalf of her colleagues the Chairman Care Taker Committee
of Degema Local Government Area Mrs. Okorite Carrie Adiele thanked the
State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the upward review of their
security votes.
According to her the Chairmen will continue to collaborate with the
JTF, the Police and other Security operatives to beef up security and
also expressed their resolution to fill the pot holes along the route
and also clear the surrounding bushes.
