The State Government says it has the Political will and commitment to continue to provide universal accesses to healthcare delivery in the State.
Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. Mrs Ipalibo Harry Banigo stated this when the National President of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria Dr. Frank Odafen led members of his Association to pay her a courtesy visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The Deputy Governor said the State Government appreciates the contributions of Private Medical Practitioners in the quest to provide Universal Access to quality Medicare this according to her necessitated the Governors approval of five hundred million naira interest free loan guaranteed by the State Government to upgrade private hospitals.
Dr. Banigo said the State Government has continued to invest in health infrastructure to reverse the ugly trend it met at inception where routine immunization coverage was less than 30% resulting to an increase in the outbreak of child hood killer diseases because Primary healthcare workers had been on strike for over a year.
“The Governor intervened and brought back the workers to work, reopened the health centres, dusted and shining and today we are delivering primary health care under one roof and our routine immunization coverage has improved because of the Governor’s Commitment and leadership” Dr. Banigo stressed.
She thanked them for appreciating the Governor’s developmental strides stressing that he is only fulfilling his promise to the Rivers People.
“We are only doing what we are expected to do as a people freely elected by the people to deliver the dividends of democracy to them” she stressed.
Earlier in his address the National President Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria Dr. Frank Odafen, said as employers of labour Medical Practitioners provide social security and peace in the society and commended the Governor Wike-led administration for the massive infrastructural development been witnessed in the State.
